From Empty Space to Massive Storage

What started as a simple hallway update quickly turned into a full-blown transformation. Initially, I just wanted to move a small partition wall to give our kitchen more space (and, of course, add an arch—because why not?). But once I got started, I couldn't stop.
I ended up moving the wall, adding sconces, patching things up, painting with dreamy limewash, painting all the doors, and replacing the baseboards and trims. Then came the big realization—our 6x19-foot hallway had so much untapped potential for storage. So, I designed a 9-foot-long storage cabinet with 16 drawers (including four sneaky hidden ones) and a center cabinet with floating shelves.
The DIY vs. Custom Drawer Dilemma
The thought of building 16 drawers myself is exciting but also a little terrifying. So, I turned to Cabinet Door Store for custom dovetail drawer boxes. I've used their drawers before, and they are strong, beautiful, and easy to assemble—perfect for a big project like this.

Assembling the Drawers (Yes, It's Satisfying)
I opted for unfinished, unassembled drawers to save money, and putting them together was surprisingly fun. Here's the quick version of all the steps I took to assemble:
What You Need: Mallet, wood glue, sandpaper, tapping block, damp rag
Steps:
Lightly sand all pieces.
Apply glue to the front and back panels.
Tap the side panels into place using a tapping block.
Slide in the bottom panel, glue the final piece, and tap it in.
Wipe excess glue and let dry.
Boom—dovetail perfection! I sealed mine with this wax oil for a natural, durable finish.
This hallway project turned out better than I imagined, and I love how functional it is now. Thanks to Cabinet Door Store for helping bring my storage dreams to life!
