How I Installed Corten Steel Garden Edging | Easy DIY Landscape Upgrade.

I'll admit it—I used to think garden edging was optional. A "nice-to-have." And then the mulch started creeping into the lawn. That was the beginning of the end.

This year, I decided it was time to give our garden some boundaries with 8-inch Corten steel edging from Edge Right.

Why Corten Steel?

Because it's strong. It's modern. And yes, it rusts on purpose. That signature weathered patina isn’t just cool—it's also what protects the steel long-term.

The Installation

I wasn’t exactly excited—I was dreading this project. It seemed like the kind of thing that would take all weekend, test my patience, and probably my lower back too. But I was genuinely surprised by how fast and straightforward it turned out to be.

We started by raking back the mulch and setting a string line (don’t skip this part—your future self will thank you). We started tapping each panel into the ground with a tapping block and a mallet (which came with the order). We learned quickly that if you tap them in the center with a steady force, it goes in much quicker and more evenly. We also figured out how to bend a corner using a wood block, and honestly, it went way smoother than I expected.

Bonus points: this stuff is surprisingly forgiving. Need a curve? You got it. Just bend gently to any shape.

The After

Once it was all in, the difference was immediate. Clean lines. Defined boundaries. No more mulch takeover. We even used the angled end pieces to give it a finished look, which made it finished and intentional. They really thought of everything.

Final Thoughts

This project took a couple of afternoons, a few tools, and a little sweat, but now our yard looks sharp, tidy, and finished. If you've been thinking about upgrading your edging, this is your sign.

They offer 4-foot and 2-foot strips in 6-inch, 8-inch, and 14-inch heights. Be sure to check out their accessories for different situations, like drainage solutions and bridge pieces for installing over tree roots.
