Why We Chose Quartz For Our Countertop

This is not a sponsored post. All opinions expressed in this post are based on my personal experience.

Yes, part of me fantasizes about a marble kitchen countertop with bold, mysterious veins, warm and smooth to the touch, but it's only fantasy. Most natural stones are porous, and I didn't want to worry about oil spills or tea stains, so we decided on quartz.

Quartz is a non-porous crystalline mineral that's durable, stain, and scratch-resistant, and it’s something that doesn’t need to be sealed. In addition, it comes in many different colors and tones with beautiful graining.

I can list many quartz brands here, but I won't bore you with that. 😊 I chose Cambria for its attractive options, it is a brand I'm familiar with, and it's widely available through local stone suppliers. Also, Home Depot offers a select few.

Cambria Samples - Portrush, Hawksmoore, Archdale, Sutherland, Woodcroft

Initially, we browsed their collection on their site and selected a few samples to order. We got Portrush, Hawksmoore, Archdale, Sutherland, and Woodcroft. Although these were all equally beautiful in their characteristics, no doubt, it was between Woodcroft and Sutherland.

Soleil and I almost fell in love with their Woodcroft, which has very subtle golden sparkles as it's veining on black. I had to keep myself from using black in our small kitchen and wanted to keep things light and airy. So, we chose Sutherland in 3cm thickness with a simple Ridgeline edge.

I got quotes from three different local stone distributors/fabricators. Pricewise, all three were wildly different, but we went with Innovate Stones, a local fabricator where we live. They offered to take out the old countertop, so if you go through a similar situation, ask your countertop company to take the old ones out (some offer it as part of their service).

It's been almost four months since we installed our countertop, and we're so happy with our decision. I have no fear of spills. 😊
